Artist's Message.....

Rural landscapes and wildflowers have always been an important facet of my life. The years have taken me from a small, hillside dairy farm on a remote country road to working in a busy advertising agency in Washington, DC. After surviving big city riots and all the complexities of city life I came to realize how precious our wild and secluded spaces are.

I grow perennial flowers in my small yard, but I especially cherish the flowers that have existed and flourished without help...our native wildflowers. I'm very concerned about their preservation because so many species are disappearing due to destruction of their habitat and illegal harvesting. I encourage everyone to appreciate their beauty and promote public awareness of them. Lately my artwork is focusing on many native New England flowers in an effort to give them the attention they deserve.

When I paint the weathered old barns or rustic farm equipment, it takes me back to the dairy farm I was raised on in Vestal Center, NY. I can still remember the scent of the hay and the lights glowing inside the barn at milking time. Every old barn has a character all its own and we are also losing them. Century farms are being abandoned by the younger generations and sold off as real estate. Many weathered old barns are "senior citizens" and buckle under the weight of heavy winter snows.They too will be missed in the countryside.

I live now at a small private lake and am surrounded by woodlands, wild flowers and farms. I can step out my door and find subject matter on a walk or just take a ride on a backroad for more inspiration. I've been fortunate to have won first place cash, ribbons, purchase and popular vote awards for several of my paintings. Collectors in the United States and Europe have made purchases. I've also had solo exhibitions and now sell my work in juried shows in New York state, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Florida.
